The Lagos State Government has pledged its support for the premiere of Black Market, an upcoming Nigerian film scheduled to premiere on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island, according to The Nation Online. The government confirmed its involvement through a post on its official X account, signalling institutional support for the highly anticipated film event.
The announcement followed a meeting between members of the film’s production and events team and Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson Awoyinka, on Thursday, August 27. The delegation included Producer Nora Awolowo, Co Producer and Executive Producer Omowunmi Dada, and Event Producer Damilola Osikoya, who visited the ministry to formally seek its backing for the premiere.
The planned collaboration reflects Lagos State’s continued effort to position the city as a major destination for film, entertainment, tourism and cultural events. Hosting the premiere at the historic Tafawa Balewa Square also gives the production an opportunity to connect cinema with one of Lagos’ most recognisable cultural landmarks.
For Black Market, government support could add greater visibility and institutional credibility to the September premiere while reinforcing Lagos’ growing reputation as a centre for Nigeria’s creative economy. The event is expected to bring together filmmakers, actors, entertainment personalities, industry stakeholders and audiences for one of the city’s major cinema events of the year.
