Trump Linked Firm Raises Bosnia Investment Plans to $2.3 Billion

A US investment group with ties to President Donald Trump’s business circle has expanded its planned investment programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina to about $2.3 billion, increasing its ambitions in the country’s energy and infrastructure sectors, as reported by The Guardian and Bloomberg. The plans are centred on projects including the Southern Gas Interconnection, which would connect Bosnia to Croatia and provide access to US LNG while reducing dependence on Russian gas.

The investment push is linked to AAFS Infrastructure and Energy LLC, a US based company that submitted proposals covering the gas interconnection, gas fired power generation and the modernisation of airports in Sarajevo and Mostar. Bosnia’s Federation government has opened formal discussions with the company, although officials have stressed that the dialogue does not itself constitute a concession or binding investment agreement.

The Southern Interconnection is already being positioned as a major strategic infrastructure project. Bosnia’s investment promotion agency said the pipeline could be worth more than BAM1 billion, while the government sees greater US investment in energy infrastructure as an opportunity to strengthen energy security and attract additional foreign capital.

For Bosnia, the proposed $2.3 billion investment programme could represent a significant boost to energy infrastructure, transport and economic connectivity, while strengthening ties with US investors. It also carries wider geopolitical significance as Sarajevo seeks alternatives to Russian energy supplies and moves closer to European Union integration.
