Paris Saint-German Retain UEFA Super Cup With 2-1 Win Over Aston Villa

Paris Saint-Germain retained the UEFA Super Cup after defeating Aston Villa 2-1 in Salzburg, Austria, strengthening their status as European champions at the start of the new season. According to Reuters and Sky Sports, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Aston Villa’s 17-year-old debutant Brian Madjo equalised shortly before halftime. Désiré Doué restored PSG’s lead in the 61st minute, with the goal initially ruled out for offside before a VAR review overturned the decision.

The victory gives PSG back to back UEFA Super Cup titles, making them only the third club in history to achieve consecutive victories in the competition after Real Madrid and AC Milan. Madjo’s goal also made him the youngest scorer in UEFA Super Cup history, adding a historic element to Villa’s defeat. PSG manager Luis Enrique secured his 13th trophy since taking charge of the French club in 2023.

The result reinforces PSG’s growing dominance in European football after their Champions League triumph and highlights the commercial value of sustained success at the highest level. For the club, another European trophy strengthens its global brand, competitive profile and ability to attract elite talent and commercial partnerships, while Aston Villa’s performance demonstrates its growing competitiveness after winning the Europa League.

Looking ahead, PSG will enter the new campaign seeking to build on its European success and pursue further domestic and continental trophies. The Super Cup victory provides an early indication of the club’s ambitions, while Villa can take confidence from a competitive performance against the reigning Champions League holders as it prepares for another demanding European season.
